Birdcaging
of Wire Ropes
In birdcaging, the
strands spring away from the core or inner strands. If these
are not cut away then the rope requires replacement.
This defect too is irreversible in nature
Bird caging results from careless handling during
installation when ropes are lapped off reel or coil
and then pulled away springing the strands away from
core.
Similarly non rotating ropes (Multi Strand Ropes) are
prone to such damage because of large number of small
strands as compared to 6 strand ropes.
It can also result of suddeen release of heavy
loading on the rope and which has been localized at
the entry to a tight grooved sheave
