REJECTION CRITERIA

Synthetic Fiber Slings: Synthetic Fiber Web Slings are easily cut and have poor abrasion resistance when compared with chain and wire rope slings. It is important to use slings made of the right material for job. Nylon slings are damage by acids, but resist caustics. Polyester slings are damage by caustic, but resist acids. Sunlight, moisture and temperature above 900 Celsius damage both nylon and polyester slings. Subsection-1 Figure visually shows the rejection criteria stated in this subsection. Damage slings must be permanently removed from service to prevent further use.

Examples of Synthetic Web Slings Rejection Criteria

Subsection-2 Acid and caustic heat burns, broken stitching in load-bearing splices, and damage eyes and end fittings all affects the load – carrying capability of slings. Damage slings be permanently removed from services and physically altered to prevent further use.

Subsection-3 If no single type pf damage exceeds the specified limits, the employer must consider the sum of the individual effect of the various types of damage. If this is approximately equivalent to the effect from a single type of damage, the slings must permanently removed from service and physically altered to prevent further use.

Subsection-4 A synthetic fiber web slings that is permanently removed from service must be physically altered its further use. The simplest way to do this is to cut slings into many small, unusable pieces. The pieces should be disposed of immediately.
